About Weymouth, United Kingdom
Weymouth is a coastal town, in the South of England in the county of Dorset. Weymouth forms part of the English Channel and is known as "England's Bay of Naples". It’s beautiful beach and harbour attract thousands of visitors each year, who come to enjoy all types of water and beach sports, with numerous events and competitions taking place each year, including Olympic sailing events. Visiting Weymouth does not limit you to water sports though, it is home to important and amazing historic landmarks and sites as well as parks, wildlife sanctuaries and designated rock climbing venues. The history of this beautiful coastal town is unfortunately often linked to the arrival of the disease known as "Black Death" which killed thousands of people in the 12th century. Weymouth on a positive note is mostly related to some of the first ever ships leaving for America carrying Emigrants. The beautiful, old Georgian Architecture throughout the town shows its complex history. Visit the Queen Victoria Jubilee Clock, the ruins of Sandfoot Castle from the 16th century, the Nothe Fort Maritime Museum, Brewer’s Quay and the National Sailing Academy to learn about Weymouth's history and present day operations. The Benetts Water Gardens are a great outing for connecting with nature and relaxing amongst lakes, small waterfalls and a large collection of water lilly species. The seafood festival also attract large amounts of visitors who enjoy freshly caught cargo and all types of seafood. Weymouth is the perfect place for a vacation where activities and attractions are available for everyone.
